Where your money actually goes
A budget is a plan, not a punishment
Split every payday into three buckets so you always know what is spendable.
Three buckets, one payday
Most money stress comes from not knowing what is safe to spend. A budget fixes that in one move: the day money lands, it gets a job.
A simple starting split is needs, wants and future. Needs are rent, food, transport and bills. Wants are the fun. Future is saving and investing.
Start from what is real
Look at the last three months of your bank account, not at the person you wish you were. Add up what actually left the account each month.
If your needs already eat most of your income, that is information, not failure. It tells you the lever is income or fixed costs, not your coffee.
Make it automatic
Move the future bucket out on payday, not at the end of the month. Whatever is left in your everyday account is genuinely spendable.
Words worth knowing
Open dictionary- Fixed costs
- Bills that stay roughly the same every month, like rent or a phone plan.
- Variable costs
- Spending that moves around, like groceries or going out.
- Net income
- What actually lands in your account after tax.
When is the best moment to move money to savings?
Try it yourself
Write down your last three months of income and fixed costs. Set one automatic transfer on payday.
Can you spot it?
Two people earn the same. One saves on payday, one saves 'what's left'. Who ends the year with more?
