Credit without the trap

Borrowing is a tool, not a personality test

How credit scoring works in Europe and the UK, and how to keep yours healthy.

What lenders actually look at

Broadly: do you repay on time, how much credit are you using, and how long is your track record. The details differ by country, but those three show up almost everywhere.

In the UK, agencies like Experian and Equifax build a score. In much of the EU, national registers hold repayment history instead of a single public score.

Utilisation matters

Using a small share of your available credit and clearing it in full each month generally looks better than running close to the limit.

Buy now, pay later counts

Instalment products are credit. Missed payments can be reported, and several small plans at once are easy to lose track of.
